Navigating Drug Crimes In California
During our time as criminal defense lawyers we’ve handled all sorts of cases – some crazy and others pretty vanilla. One of the common cases we see are drug crimes. While a “simple” drug cases can just be possession of drugs or drug paraphernalia, they can quickly get snowball into more complex cases if you’ve been pulled over for driving under the influence or impaired driving. With recent changes in the legalization of pot for some states how does that affect those who already have a pot conviction? Here’s what we said in a story for Avvo: “Marijuana just in general is a fascinating thing as far as criminal law goes,” says Bradley R. Corbett, a criminal defense attorney in San Diego. “(There are) a lot of issues because federal laws have not changed, so we’re talking about federal versus state issues. And while laws change all the time, that doesn’t mean they go back and (re)write the history book on people’s charges. The law was the law, and if you were convicted, it’s not retroactive.” You can read the rest of it here: Should we free people imprisoned for pot arrests? – AvvoStories http://stories.avvo.com/rights/marijuana/should-we-free-people-imprisoned-for-pot-arrests.html#ixzz43wTXptvpBradley Corbett
