San Diego is home to some amazing places. Unfortunately, some of these places can be pretty pricey for college students. We understand this and made a list of date ideas that are both affordable and fun. Read the list, make some plans, save money and have a blast!

You can even take your bikes on the ferry for free if you want something a little more athletic and adventurous. The fun and opportunities are endless on gorgeous Coronado island.

What’s better than a staged haunted house around Halloween? A real haunted house throughout the year! The Whaley House Museum has been ranked as the most haunted buildings in the United States. With huge amounts of paranormal sightings documented by ghost hunters, visitors, employees and owners alike, there’s a good chance it’s the real deal. Good news for you is that it’s located in the heart of San Diego and offers self-guided tours for only $8 a person during the day or $13 at night. If you decide your date night needs to be epic, book an hour and half ghost hunting tour for $50 and learn even more about some of the hauntings that happen there.

If you can plan it out right, the first Tuesday of every month is free for you and your date to visit the California Surf Museum. The museum features some of the most retro surfboards and memorabilia that you can actually touch. A great place to go if your date likes the surfing scene or gets a kick out of California history!
Brewery Tours
There’s a lot of things that San Diego does well but we can’t fail to mention some of the best breweries in the state. So much so that there are several brewery tours that you can take if you feel like trying a little bit of everything. Now that San Diego State offers a craft beer program, take your date and wow them with your scholarly knowledge of all things beer. Check out Pizza Port Brewery Cafe or Groundswell Brewing Company if you’re looking to stay near campus.
Watch A Movie Under The Stars

There’s probably nothing more fun than lounging in zero-gravity reclining chairs with your buddies and watching a film classic under a starlit sky. While Cinema Under The Stars costs a little more than your average movie at $16, the atmosphere is what makes this place the winner for watching a movie with your date. At $2 each for soda, popcorn or candy, you can’t beat the concessions prices. And don’t worry about bad weather, if a storm happens to blow through, the retractable roof has got you covered!

If you want to do some adventuring, than grab some beach shoes and head on over to the Point Loma Tide Pools. Bring your camera so you can catch some great shots of wildlife and the ocean views. Remember, it costs $10 to park the car so come prepared with some cash handy. Check out some history when you visit the Cabrillo National Monument while you’re there and you’ve got yourself an educational date, too.
Go To A Hookah Bar

While there are a lot of options for hookah bars in San Diego, the most loved hookah bar among college kids seems to be the Prince Hookah Cafe. Just up the road from San Diego State University, college kids come here to study or hang out – and of course smoke a hookah. While not the fanciest of places, you can still get some good food in a fun ambience without breaking the bank. A cheap date that is sure to leave you feeling exotic.
Gelato In Little Italy

There aren’t many people that dislike gelato, especially if it comes from Little Italy. Take your date to a little patio cafe and enjoy the lights at San Diego’s Little Italy. You can find some of the most authentic Italian pizzas and pastas in the city there and price ranges go from low to high depending on what you’re looking for. Hop on the trolley to get you from one end to the other and pretend like you’re in Europe for the evening. The charm never wears off in this little Italian corner of San Diego.
Rent Some Bikes and Ride By The Ocean
Rent a tandem bike or a Surrey and ride along the beautiful Harbor Drive. Don’t worry about looking too goofy, just pretend you’re a tourist for the evening and have a fun date. It’s best to remember not to “drink and pedal” though. There are criminal charges for biking under the influence in San Diego so keep the brewskies at bay.
Hike Torrey Pines State Reserve

It’s never a bad time to hike at Torrey Pines in beautiful La Jolla, California. While you can find some free parking here, it’s usually quite limited so expect to pay $15 to park the car. Don’t forget your camera since you can sometimes catch a seal or two sunning on the rocks. Not to mention the gorgeous ocean views that will make all your land-locked friends jealous.
