How to Stay Safe During the Holiday Season

There’s nothing like the holiday season to brighten the cold winter months and bring loved ones together. You’re likely spending this time buying gifts, attending holiday parties, and finding ways to make the season extra special. But as you shop, decorate, and spend time with friends, don’t forget to practice good safety. Here are four ways to stay safe during the holiday season.

1. Keep Packages Safe

Ordering all of your Christmas gifts online? If so, make sure you know when your packages are arriving. Plan to be home to pick them up, or ask a neighbor to bring them inside for you. Packages left out on the porch could easily be stolen.

2. Wash Your Hands

The holiday season is also flu season, but you’ll greatly minimize your chance of getting sick by practicing good hygiene. Wash your hands before eating, after going to the bathroom, or after being in a public place.

3. Make Your Home Look Occupied

Even if you’re spending your nights out at holiday parties or traveling to visit family, make sure your home looks occupied. Burglars are on the prowl during the holiday season, so keep your presents out of sight and leave a few lights on while you’re gone.

4. Be Careful With Lit Candles

Candles add a magical touch to any holiday scene, but make sure you’re careful with them. Light candles in safe places, away from flammable materials like paper and wood. And always blow out the candle before leaving the room!
